Installation Instructions
Proper installation is critical to the successful performance of Barrier Island's hurricane screen. If the screen is not anchored correctly, it could fail.
These products are designed to be installed by an experienced do-it-yourselfer who can use the proper tools. Otherwise, we strongly recommend that the homeowner engage a contractor to perform the anchoring installations.
Construction methods vary but are typically wood frame, steel or concrete/block. Construction will also depend on the building code in your community at the time of construction. For example, building codes in many areas have become increasingly stricter since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In most cases, windows and doors are framed within the wall by wood beams referred as studs, headers and footers. Studs, headers and footers are some of the strongest points in a wall and are an ideal base for installing the anchors.
